The numbers game has begun. Political strategists and spin doctors are hard at work. Black bodies must be delivered at the altar of manifesto rallies all over the country. Nothing less than a massive show of strength will do. A minimum of 1000 busses from the four corners of South Africa were said to be on their way to the ANC manifesto launch in Port Elizabeth my home town. This number excludes local black bodies who must play host.
Every black body on sight that can be bought will be donned in yellow. Some of these same black bodies will be donned in Blue and in Red when the DA and EFF respectively, descend in the same “friendly city” for their share of the spoils.
These black bodies turned into “voting cows”, are actually human beings, out of whom, three out of every five are unemployed. These are the same black bodies subjected to severe violent crimes in gang festered communities, overcrowded clinics and short staffed schools of Port Elizabeth.
The site for the rally is not the squalor and the refugee camps they irk out their daily living, but the plush side of town, the inheritance of white thieves. Many of these black bodies will be back in the area Monday morning, as salves, looking after white children, making tea for white madams, cutting grass and trimming trees under the scorching heat of the sun.
These black bodies wake up from slumber once in a while, when they do, they surprise all of us. They have the ability to look power in the eye, as they did with the ANC cabinet minister, Bathabile Dlamini yesterday, bringing her to tears and telling her to go back to her expensive hotel and drink more of her expensive wine. If you tune closely to the footage, a lot more was said in the vernacular, that if it were to be translated in English, we will all be shocked at the level of anger and frustration by the masses, and what is likely to happen when they finally wake up.
When all is said and done, after all the manifesto rallies, even after the elections, black bodies will wake up to landlessness, and dispossession. They will still be hungry, sick and defeated. White people will smile all the way to the bank, cashing in on the money made from the empty display of temporary power by political parties. Whites would have supplied transport, whites would have supplied water, whites would have supplied hotels, whites would have supplied expensive wine, and whites would have supplied some of the manifestos including the constitution they all worship.
After August, black bodies must be happy slaves in their RDP houses, backyard dwellings and informal settlements and wait for more promises in 2019 when they will be dressed up in Yellow, Red and Blue again.
