BLF 24 hour picket continues at Public Protectors office

By Zanele Lwana

Last Thursday, 6 October 2016, our movement Black First Land First (BLF) marched to the office of the Public Protector. The aim of the march was to deliver a memorandum to the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Mandosela, which calls on her to essentially deal with white corruption and to stop being used as a tool of regime change.

Advocate Madonsela was not there to receive the memorandum of BLF. The memorandum has specific demands. Firstly, it calls on the Public Protector to either issue a report on the full R26 billion stolen by white capital from the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) as indicated in the CIEX report, or she must not issue the report at all. BLF believes that Advocate Madonsela is no longer an impartial investigator and protector of the public. She is in fact a Protector of white capital – protecting in particular, the Johann Rupert family. Johann Rupert is implicated in the R26 billion theft and Madonsela’s selective investigation evidently aims to protect him.

Secondly, the BLF memorandum clarifies that Advocate Madonsela has no basis to exclude our complaint of state capture against very specific white individuals including Johann Rupert. Why is Advocate Thuli Mandosela only investigating the Democratic Alliance (DA) complaint against the Gupta family for state capture but not the BLF complaint of state capture by white capitalists?

BLF has lodged a complaint with the Public Protector’s Office in March 2016 to investigate state capture by the following:

1. Johann Rupert (SA Businessman and Chairman of Richemont)
2. Maria Ramos (ABSA Group Chief Executive, Barclays Africa Chief Executive Officer)
3. Colin Coleman (Goldman Sachs’ South Africa head)
4. Stephen Koseff (Investec Bank’s global CEO)
5. Mark Lamberti (Imperial Holdings’ CEO)
6. Ian Kirk (Sanlam CEO)
7. Bobby Godsel (Business Leadership South Africa Chairperson)
8. Johan van Zyl (Toyota Europe CEO)
9. Johan Burger (First Rand CEO).

BLF believes that the reason Advocate Madonsela is excluding whites in her state capture investigation is to protect white capital and in particular, Johann Rupert.

The selective state capture investigation targeting the Gupta family, is a political gift to the DA by Advocate Thuli Mandosela. We now believe that the DA shall thank her by appointing her as it’s presidential candidate in the 2019 election.

BLF has been approached by many black people who have been badly served by the Public Protector. Last Thursday night BLF picketers spent the whole night outside the Office of the Public Protector with the family of Baba Themba from Mpumalanga. Mr Themba is blind and not too well. He was evicted from his house illegally. The Public Protector had ruled that he must be returned to his house. This has not materialized and now she refuses to even meet with Baba Themba. She has also left in the lurch the small contractors of Alexandra who have been swindled of millions of rands.

It is clear that the Public Protector only prioritizes complaints by whites. Together with these affected communities, BLF shall maintain a 24 hours picket at the Office of the Public Protector starting from tomorrow, 10 October 2016. A further march is planned for this coming Friday. The details of the march are as follows:

Date: 14 October 2016
Time: 10am
Venue: Hillcrest Office Park, 175 Lunnon Street, Pretoria.

For transport arrangements kindly contact BLF GP Coordinator, Tshidiso Tsimong, via his cell number, 0796680351.
