The inaugural BLF Black Business Seminar will take place in Pretoria on 03 December. One of the speakers on the day will be Nigeria born, South Africa based television producer, Wale Akinlabi. He is the president and owner of a production company called Planet Image productions which produces entertainment channel Planet TV and one of the biggest breakfast shows in the continent, Good Morning Africa on Africa Magic.
With a pan-Africanist perspective to broadcasting and media production, Akinlabi’s Planet TV livestreams the vibrant youth, entertainment, lifestyle and musical popular culture of both South Africa and Nigeria, while the breakfast show Good Morning Africa dishes out news and entertainment from “across the world through the eyes of the African continent.”
Akinlabi was born in Nigeria where he studied towards a degree in visual & performance art from the Lagos State University. He conceptualised his business while working as a video editor in Nigera. He moved to South Africa in 2004 and then created a working relationship with Africa Magic.
He has won numerous awards including Best television producer with the most African content in 2012 by African achievers award at Kings College in the United Kingdom, Media Excellence in 2011 by Leaders Voice magazine in South Africa, and Entrepreneur of the year 2011 by Applause magazine United Kingdom, amongst others.
Akinlabi will be sharing his expertise at the Black Business Seminar on the challenges of operating a media focused business as a black person in Africa.
