Pravin, what about the R26BILLION?

By BO Staff Writer

The Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, last Friday curiously lodged a High Court application which makes no legal sense at all.

Sources says the court application by Pravin Gordhan was plan B, hatched in case plan A failed. Plan A was contained in the flawed “state capture” report by the Public Protector, which was not released as a result of a court application by minister Des Van Rooyen.

The success of the Van Rooyen application was a devastating defeat for the Johann Rupert forces which are led by, amongst others, Minister Pravin Gordhan, The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), United Democratic Movement (UDM) and the racist Democratic Alliance (DA) of Helen Zille.

The Rupert forces, which are at the forefront of the ‘Zuma Must Go’ campaign, had pinned all their hopes on the report of the former Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela on so called state capture, to revive the dead campaign of ‘Zuma Must Go’ and also they hoped it would open a new assault on the Gupta family.

Sources say the defeat suffered last Friday forced Gordhan to trigger plan B. This explains why he lodged the application at night, it was an act of panic. Sources say the application has no legal merit but is calculated to cause political damage and revive the ‘Guptas Must Go’ campaigns. It makes no sense to ask court to make an order about whether the minister has powers to intervene on the Gutpa banks saga. Gordhan’s application is a sinister political ploy to divert attention from his own fraud case and to rebuild the confidence of the Rupert forces after their crushing defeat last Friday.

The most curious point was raised by the Black First Land First (BLF) movement. The National Convenor of BLF, Andile Mngxitama has asked why Gordhan is prioritising the matter related to R6 billion of legal transactions but is silent on the R26 billion which was stolen from the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), which is under his ministry. “Gordhan’s lack of interest in the R26 billion shows that he is the hired hand of white capital,” Mngxitama said.

Sources says Johann Rupert was angered by losing the court case by his forces last Friday. Apparently, all his agents are now out to please him. The EFF opening criminal charges on mere rumours is part of the response of the Rupert forces to appease their boss.

How the anti-imperialist side is going to respond to this new challenge is going to be interesting. Currently the pro-BRICS side which is also opposed to white monopoly capital has been led by BLF. The organisation is fiercely against the economic power held by white settlers and has become a formidable opponent of Johann Rupert.

As things stand it looks like Gordhan is in a hurry to do all it takes to protect white capital as his position as minister of finance is no longer safe given the fraud charges he is facing.

The next few months are going to be as turbulent as the rand on the political front in South Africa.
