President Jacob Zuma has instructed the Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebisi Jonas, to immediately cancel their international investor roadshow.
“President Jacob Zuma has instructed the Minister of Finance, Mr Pravin Gordhan and Deputy Minister Mcebisi Jonas to cancel the international investment promotion roadshow to the United Kingdom and the United States and return to South Africa immediately,” the presidency spokesman, Bongani Ngqulana said in a statement with no further elaboration.
On Saturday, the Treasury announced that Gordhan, Jonas, along with the Director General Lungisa Fuzile and “key National Treasury officials, Business and Labour” would embark on a “non-deal international investor roadshow”.
“The purpose of this is to provide an update on the most recent developments, engage constructively with investors and share government’s thinking behind its’ latest policy proposals,” Treasury said.
The cancelation comes amid widespread speculation that President Zuma may resuffle cabinet and appoint his preferred minister.
