Gayton Mckenzie pulls the trigger – withdraws PA from NMB coalition

By BO Staff Writer

Gayton McKenzie has rocked the boat again in the ailing coalition government of Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB). McKenzie sent a fiery letter to Democratic Alliance (DA) mayor, Athol Trollip, notifying him of the PA’s intention to withdraw from the coalition with immediate effect after the DA-led municipality failed to put forward the PA’s candidate, Marlon Daniels, as candidate to take over the position of deputy mayor. This move has gotten many questioning what will be the next move of the DA and Economic Freedom Fighters in NMB, since this will mean the DA might loose the majority. Read McKenzie’s full letter to Trollip below:

National Executive Leadership Coalition Correspondence

To Honourable Mayor Athol Trollip,

The Patriotic Alliance National Executive Leadership hereby notifies Cllr Athol Trollip of the withdrawal from the coalition in the Nelson Mandela Bay. The agreement reached was very clear, we will only enter into a coalition with the Democratic Alliance when the position of Deputy Mayor is made available for PA occupancy.

The Patriotic Alliance Party Leader noted that at the point of discussion this position was not vacant and stated outright that the PA councillor would assist the DA to bring back stabilisation to the Metro by assisting with the removal of the alleged corrupt then current Deputy Mayor.

The realisation that the promises made to voters by the Democratic Alliance will never come to pass in this young coalition agreement. It thus leaves the Patriotic Alliance with no choice but to withdraw, as we cannot support a party that that will never deliver on the mandate to service and serve its people and the constituents of Nelson Mandela Bay.

The withdrawal is with immediate effect.

Yours,

Gayton McKenzie
Patriotic Alliance National Leadership
