The Rutanang Kasi Book Festival is claiming its position as one of the premier book fests of South Africa. This year, because of the Covid-19 challenges, it’s mostly a virtual affair. The fest runs under #Rutanang2020 and boasts an impressive array of writers and critics. The program caters for all age groups with a special emphasis on children.
Tseko Nkhane, the festival founder and director, must be commended for sustaining and growing the event from the dusty streets of Ikageng, a Potchefstroom township.
#Rutanang2020, we thank you in advance and hope the weekend is a blast. This year the festival is sponsored by, amongst others, CNA and the Otto Foundation. Other partners of the fest are the Sol Plaatje University, North West University, Geko Publishing and BKO Magazine.
The Municipality of JB Marks needs to recognize this initiative with amazing potential. Hopefully next year the festival will see tens of these authors and literature practitioners descend to Ikageng to inspire the township into a great event of letters.
#Rutanang2020 runs from today until tomorrow. Do not miss it! Like the facebook page Rutanang Kasi Book Festival to follow the event live.
